I'm
new to this town, and on one of my "get acquainted" walks through the
downtown area, I happened to notice a small shop with a sign in the
window that said "Fiddlesticks - We Do Violins". Under that was some
artwork of a violin with a bandaid over it.
That
got me to thinking. I have an old violin that's been handed down
through the family for at least 4 generations, and I've been wanting to
learn how to play it. I was sure that it needed some adjustments as well
as some new strings and some new horsehair on the bow, so the next
weekend I brought it by the shop, took it out of it's case, and gingerly
laid it on the counter.
The
guy behind the counter was friendly enough, and he told me that yes,
they would give it a good going over for me. All they wanted was a $100
deposit. I thought that was reasonable, and so I paid the guy and
asked him how soon they might get around to it.
He said, "Oh, you can stay. I'm not busy and I can take care of it right now for you."
I
hadn't noticed while I was digging the $100 out of my purse that he had
one hand behind his back, and that he had put on some safety goggles.
"Why do you need safety gog........."
Before
I could react, he brings out a huge Gallagher-style wooden mallet from
behind his back and swings it over his head and....
::SMASH!::
I'm still picking toothpicks out of my hair.....
